British Newspaper “The Independent” sites Rudy’s Can’t fail Café as part of Oakland’s “microcosm of punk values.” We’ll take that as a compliment!

California: Oakland – Meet San Francisco’s cooler cousin
“Indeed, Oakland is a microcosm of punk values. Nearby is the Clash-monikered Rudy’s Can’t Fail Café, co-owned by Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt. The diner has mohawk-wearing waiters, boozy milkshakes and a table featuring Dirnt’s old scissor collection. Green Day have remained faithful to their native city – they still live here and are frequently seen browsing Oakland farmers’ markets with their families.”
Rudy’s is OPEN today, the day after Turkey Day, from 7am to 1am. Come on in to refuel from battling the Black Friday hordes. We have some yummy autumnal (we just wanted to use that word “autumnal”) treats: Pumpkin Pancakes, Pumpkin Lattes and the best named burger in town GOBBLE GOBBLE HEY TURKEY BURGER. Sorry, I don’t mean to yell but that crowd of fierce moms over at “K-Wal” is drowning me out!
Rudy showed up today for the NBC Bay Area and Safeway Holiday Food Drive to donate 10 bags of groceries for Bay Area families in need of food assistance. The bags of groceries could be had for $10 and each one feeds a family this Thanksgiving. The drive was part of the “Every Bag Counts ” food drive which took place at 156 Safeway stores throughout the Bay Area today. NBC Bay Area News anchor Jessica Aguirre was on the scene at the Safeway in Pleasanton and we got a chance to chat. As it turns out Ms. Aguirre is not only an awesome journalist she’s a big fan of punk rock icons such as The Clash, Blondie, The Sex Pistols and Elvis Costello. Who knew?!
Original members of The Specials popped into Rudy’s Oakland not once, but twice in the last couple of days. In town for a few shows featuring Roddy Radiation’s new band The Skabilly Rebels, the guys took in some of Rudy’s tasty edibles and draft brew. Considering how much The Specials have influenced Rudy’s Can’t Fail Café culture we were might honored to have them. Catch The Skabilly Rebels at The Bottom of the Hill tomorrow night Nov. 10th in SF.
